Jelena Vermilion, executive director of Sex Workers’ Action Program (SWAP) Hamilton, began collecting materials by, for, and about sex workers in 2020. This collection has grown into the Jelena Vermilion fonds, digitally housed at the Hamilton Public Library and the ArQuives, becoming one of the largest sex work media archive collections in history. The digital exhibition highlights Vermilion’s activism, artmaking, and community building, as well as decades of advocacy that laid the groundwork for SWAP Hamilton. Read more about the Jelena Vermilion fonds here and listen to a podcast episode about its cultural significance here.
