Student Intern

Ashini is an Intern until April at Community-Based Research Canada. She is currently a Health Sciences student at the University of Waterloo, where she is pursuing a co-op program with a planned Health Research Specialization and Gerontology Minor. Her academic and research interests focus on the intersection of neuroscience and orthopedics, reflecting her dedication to advancing healthcare and improving patient outcomes. Through her studies, Ashini is committed to understanding the complexities of aging and the ways in which innovative research can contribute to better treatments and quality of life for older adults.

Before joining Community-Based Research Canada, Ashini worked as a Research Assistant in the Orthopedic Surgery Division at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton within the sports medicine group. There, she contributed to studies focused on older adults undergoing hip or knee surgery due to end-stage arthritis. Her role involved assisting with patient recruitment, data collection, and utilizing advanced motion capture technologies to improve research accuracy and outcomes. Ashini's work in this role not only deepened her understanding of clinical research but also reinforced her passion for working with diverse populations to address pressing healthcare challenges. She is looking forward to returning to this role in the summer to continue contributing to meaningful research.

Ashini brings a blend of academic insight and practical experience to her work, always striving to foster collaboration and innovation. Her interdisciplinary approach ensures that she remains at the forefront of her field, dedicated to bridging gaps in knowledge and practice to support marginalized and aging populations.

Outside of her professional and academic pursuits, Ashini enjoys figure skating and playing music. She plays the piano, clarinet, and alto saxophone, finding joy and relaxation in her creative outlets. A fun fact about Ashini is that she was born in Vancouver but grew up in Edmonton, eventually moving to Waterloo to pursue her studies. She also has an identical twin sister came to Waterloo with her to study computer engineering.
