About the Event
The Rural Development Network and Portage College are pleased to host The Indigenous Resiliency Speaker Series, with special thanks to Pembina Pipeline Corporation and CN for supporting the series. This captivating online event is spread across four various days in September. This is an opportunity that you wouldn't want to pass up!
Each session will be approx. 90 minutes
Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM (MST): Join the us for our first speaker Dr. Jacqueline Ottmann, President of the First Nations University of Canada. Title : zoongide’ewin (resilience), ahkamêyimok (persist): demonstrations of resilience and persistence over time. In this presentation, Dr. Jacqueline Ottmann will describe and provide a historical overview and future projection of reconciliation based on the concepts of resilience and persistence from a First Nation (Saulteaux) perspective. Resilience and persistence are the ‘building blocks’ for enduring relations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, and for deep-seated educational and economic reconciliation.
Wednesday, September 13th at 2:00 PM (MST): Our second speaker is Derrick Houle, Smoke Signal Communications. Derrick will speak about “Resiliency and Economy”. This thought provoking presentation will help us to engage in challenging conversations and unite to foster the development of Indigenous communities, ultimately working towards dismantling barriers?

Friday, September 29th at 11:00AM (MST): Our final speakers will be from 4 Winds Showcase and Market on Feel The Power Of Indigenous Spoken Word with artist Sheena T Kaine and celebrate hip hop artist "Toosick"
