About the Event

Community-Based Research Canada presents “Centering Community in Community-Based Research". In this Community Conversations series, we highlight research that exemplifies a pivotal feature of community-based research: centering community and lived experience perspectives in all aspects of the research. This series will showcase projects that have been led by community members with lived experiences of the issues being investigated, and projects that have amplified the voices and experiences of those with lived experience throughout the research process.

Centering Community in Homestay Hosting: Supporting Displaced Ukrainian Women in Toronto

This presentation will share findings from our community-based research examining homestay hosting arrangements for displaced Ukrainian women living with Canadian host families in Toronto. The project explores how safety, dignity, belonging, and wellbeing are shaped within private home-based hosting environments, and how community partnerships can strengthen support systems for both hosts and displaced women.

Grounded in lived experiences, this research was co-developed with community organizations…
