Community-Based Research Canada presents “Celebrating Community-Based Research Excellence". In this E-Learning series, we will be highlighting the winners and honourary mentions from the 2025 Community-Based Research Canada Awards: Excellence in Community-Campus Research Partnership, and Emerging Community-Based Researcher.
November Event: Applying Participatory Evaluation to Support Community-Based Approaches to Substance Use Prevention
We will describe a national research collaboration with the first Canadian communities to implement the Icelandic Prevention Model (IPM). This model applies a public health approach designed to prevent substance use and promote youth development through the creation of healthy living conditions. Prevention strategies are developed through a community-driven process and focus on population-level interventions, such as the development of substance-related policy, increased community supports and enhanced access to extracurricular opportunities.
