Leveraging Community-Engaged Research to Improve Climate Journalism

This session explores how community-engaged research can strengthen climate journalism and public engagement with climate issues. Drawing on experience at the intersection of research, communications, and community organizing, the presentation examines approaches for connecting academic knowledge with the needs, experiences, and priorities of communities. Presenters will discuss how community-engaged approaches can support more relevant and accessible climate communication, while creating opportunities for communities to contribute to how climate issues are understood and represented. The session will highlight practical strategies for bridging research and public engagement, with particular attention to collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the role of journalism in communicating complex climate issues to diverse audiences.
