Fostering a patient-oriented research ecosystem: Lessons from BC SUPPORT Unit Fraser Centre
Alia Januwalla & Brittney La Pietra
BC SUPPORT Unit Fraser Centre & Simon Fraser University
The BC SUPPORT Unit was established four years ago as part of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s Strategy for Patient Oriented Research, a federal initiative with provincial partners, to support patient-oriented approaches in health research. The BC SUPPORT Unit Fraser Centre is a regional centre of the BC SUPPORT Unit and is a partnership between the Fraser Health Authority and Simon Fraser University in BC’s Lower Mainland.
This webinar will introduce the concept of patient engagement and patient-oriented research and discuss ways the Fraser Centre fosters a meaningful patient-oriented research ecosystem. The webinar will open a discussion about the similarities and differences between community-based research and patient-oriented research, and will explore the lessons we can learn across disciplines.
