University of Ottawa, Carleton University & Students Commission of Canada

This session explores the use of participatory evaluation to support community-based approaches to substance use prevention. It examines how evaluation processes can meaningfully engage community members and other stakeholders in identifying local priorities, understanding community needs, and assessing prevention initiatives. Presenters will share approaches and lessons learned from applying participatory evaluation in substance use prevention, with attention to the importance of community knowledge, collaboration, and shared decision-making. The session will highlight practical strategies for incorporating community perspectives throughout the evaluation process and consider how these approaches can strengthen the relevance, effectiveness, and sustainability of prevention efforts.
