Sarah Marie Wiebe, Erin Nuckols & Kristopher Peters

University of Victoria & First Nations' Emergency Services Society

This session explores the Climate CARE Assembly, an approach to co-creating emergency planning and policy that centres equity and community perspectives. Presenters will discuss how climate-related emergencies can disproportionately affect communities experiencing systemic and social inequities, and the importance of incorporating diverse forms of knowledge and lived experience into emergency preparedness and response. The session will highlight collaborative approaches to developing more equitable emergency policies and planning processes, with attention to the role of community participation, knowledge sharing, and cross-sector collaboration. Participants will gain insight into strategies for strengthening emergency planning and policy through equity-informed and inclusive approaches.
