Community of Practice

CBRCanada's Community of Practice (CoP) actively brings together CBRCanada members to learn from each other, network, and exchange best and promising practices for community-based research. Each Community of Practice session is led by a guest facilitator(s) who introduces a critical theme in community-based research, followed by interactive participant discussion. CoP meetings are informal and interactive - participants are expected to actively contribute to group discussions.

Note: The CoP is open for CBRCanada members only. If you are employed, studying, or affiliated with any CBRCanada member institution/organization, you are already a member. All CBRCanada members are welcome, whether you are a researcher, peer-researcher, student, project coordinator, administrator, director, or community leader.

CoP Summaries

Each month, CBRCanada staff, volunteers, and CoP participants capture key insights from the interactive discussion using a shared note-taking document. CBRCanada then creates short visual summaries highlighting key themes from the CoP discussion. Below you will find the most recent CoP discussion summaries.

“I am appreciating being part of CBRCanada’s Community of Practice. I have been able to connect with community-based research focused faculty and staff at various academic institutions across Canada. I am also learning about resources and non-academic organizations which can be used to facilitate community-based research. These connections and resources are proving to be very valuable in promoting community-based research within my own research centre.”

"I’m glad to meet new people in this field, passionate about community-based research. I felt comforted around my nervousness practicing community-based research."

- Anonymous Community of Practice participant

- Jo Ann Miller, Research Manager, Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health, University of Victoria
