The University of Guelph has a number of historical and current initiatives that work towards better community engagement. Community engagement practices and initiatives include co-curricular work in Student Experience; Learning Circles and other opportunities for innovative community-engaged pedagogy from Open Learning and Educational Support; and the long-standing extension and outreach work within and beyond the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance, which deeply links and exchange new knowledge opportunities with community and university constituents.
The Community Engaged Scholarship Institute (CESI) is a research and teaching support unit in the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences that brings together community and campus skills and resources to advance community-identified research goals. It has drawn on the rich context of community engagement at U of G to build capacity, deliver programs and enable community-university collaborations that create mutually beneficial impacts and increase capacity for engaged work. CESI also develops, implements and supports evidence-informed practices of community engaged scholarship, teaching and learning, and knowledge mobilization.
