The University of New Brunswick (UNB) is the oldest English-language university in Canada and one of the oldest public universities in North America, established in response to the Loyalists’ petition of 1785 for the establishment of a Provincial Academy of Arts and Science.

Conducting more than 70 per cent of university research in New Brunswick, UNB is the major provincial centre for research and graduate studies, as well as professional programs. UNB’s particular research strengths lie in social policy, family violence, critical health, biomedical engineering, and aquaculture and river water systems.

UNB is a leader among Canadian comprehensive universities. It’s high standards of intellectual excellence, professional accreditation, funded research and scholarly activity, and breadth of student experience have all contributed to the institution’s excellent reputational standing.

As a leader in discovery and innovation, UNB commercializes research at almost twice the average national rate; its 600 full-time faculty members include many nationally and internationally-recognized scholars, 11 Canada Research Chairs, and researchers participating in major SSHRC, CIHR and NSERC projects, as well as various research partnerships.

Every day, the UNB community comes together to find innovative solutions to the challenges we face.
